DOCfield Dummy Award Fundació Banc Sabadell Ceremony

Today we’re presenting the DOCfield Dummy Award Fundació Banc Sabadell, valued at 3000€ for the printing of a photobook, at The Folio Club. The event will take place at 19:00 at the headquarters of this Barcelona printer’s specialising in artistic publications, and the prize is awarded to the photographer Maria Sturm for her dummy Be Good, about child marriages in Rumania. We’re fortunate to have her with us to explain how she started to see Be Good, her graduation project at Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences, in the form of an exhibition. “After spending an intense period in Rumania interviewing 40 young families, i wanted to do something that would live on after the exhibition and give it added value. At this point, I have to mention my friends Sven Lindhorst-Emme and Sasha Fronczek who worked with me on the design; without them, I wouldn’t have had the energy to complete the process.”

With the DOCfield Dummy Award, Maria hopes to finally turn her dummy into a real book. “I’ve tried unsuccessfully for the last three years. I feel honoured to win this award and can’t wait to get started on this project that means so much to me.”

This evening also sees the opening at The Folio Club of the exhibition that brings together the winning dummy, the three runners-up and other shortlisted projects chosen for the exhibition. The three runners-up are Hashtag by Marta Mantyka, about Auschwitz concentration camp as a tourist destination and the publication of photos in the social networks; Can Llebeig by Clara Conill, the story of an island and a family, and Fi Su by Javier Corso, a documentary project about the problems arising from excessive alcohol consumption in Finland.
