This intervention by students on the Master’s Degree in Photography and Design at ELISAVA takes the postcard as its theme, medium and end. The postcard has been fundamental in the development and popularisation of both photography and tourism, offering a medium and an essential element without which neither could be understood as we know them. Yet the postcard, as a simulated image of an ideal world, is nothing more than a fiction created for tourists, representing a world tamed, kind to and tolerant of all publics. In this respect, the project questions the postcard, its importance, its history and its current use, at the same time exploring the simulated image that the postcard has constructed of the city of Barcelona.
The Master’s Degree in Photography and Design at ELISAVA, the Barcelona University School of Design and Engineering, is a postgraduate programme that sees photography as an open discipline by means of which students are encouraged to create extensive high-resolution photography projects, while exploring the most contemporary approaches to artistic creation, with the emphasis on innovation, experimentation, and theoretical and practical research.
Greetings from Barcelona is a project by Master Photography & Design ELISAVA which consist in a postcard intervention at #rutaDOCfield in different DOCfield 2017 venues and an exhibition at espacio Miscelánea Barcelona from 23th to 26th November 2017.
