The Madrid author Víctor Casas is the winner of the 4th edition of the DOCfield Dummy Award Fundació Banc Sabadell of photobook, with the work entitled MAD.RUS.22 / 08.
The winning photobook reflects on the trip he made with his wife to pick up his adopted son in a Russian orphanage. The jury of the award, formed by Jesús Micó, theorist, professor and independent curator, Irene Mendoza, artistic director at Foto Colectania, Ramón Reverté, editor and creative director of Editorial RM, and Arcangela Regis, photographer, graphic designer and printer, highlighted the “Successful implementation of the work”, as well as “thematic and graphic coherence, with a certain harsh aspect, such as bureaucracy, and at the same time subtle and delicate”. The jury concluded that “MAD.RUS.22 / 08” is “a poetic and suggestive, elliptical and not cryptic story”.
In addition, the jury made a special mention to the photobook “You never told me at your time in prison” by the Iranian author Schore Mehrdju.
The prize, consisting of the printing of a limited edition photobook valued at 3,000 euros, was delivered last Friday, November 24 at Foto Colectania. This year the prize received 45 models, 20 of which went to the final, inscribed in the theme of DOCfield Barcelona 2017, the trip. The models of the 20 prize-winning photobooks are on display in the Foto Colectania library space (Passeig de Picasso, 14) until December 17.
